There are several laws that Weston has that are not the same for the eastern end of the continent. First, while Priascialla does not generally condone capital punishment, Weston will execute criminals if the crime is bad enough to warrant it (ie, mass or serial murder, murder of children or priests, etc). High treason generally gets a stiff penalty as well, but Priascialla must be notified before the punishment is carried out.
For lesser crimes, such as rape, arson, theft, assault, and other offenses, penalties range from fines to press-gang work to maiming to banishment.
One penalty Weston does not use that Priascialla does is imprisonment -- the village simply can't afford to hold prisoners for any length of time. Weston does have a jail, but it is used solely to keep people until their trials. The larger cities like imprisonment, but they have much better resources to devote to such things.
Imperial law requires that accused people get the opportunity to defend themselves. Weston, therefore, does allow legal representation at trials. There are few lawyers this far out in the frontier, but those that exist travel extensively to area villages and towns. There are three or four in residence in Weston most of the time.
